There are various types of rice that you can use for cooking. The three most popular ones are basmati rice, brown rice and white rice. In India, mostly basmati rice is used in cooking. Basmati has a long grain and it is aromatic too. It is also less sticky than other varieties of rice. Basmatirice is first soaked in water before it is cooked. This helps in making the rice fluffy and prevents it from sticking to each other while cooking. Brown rice has a nutty taste and it is rich in fiber content as well. Brown rice takes longer time to cook than white or basmati. White rice on the other hand doesn’t have as much fiber content as brown or basmati, but it can be digested easily by the stomach as compared to brown or basmati because it doesn’t have husk on its outer layer unlike brown and basmatirice.

How To Cook Rice

Rice isn’t difficult to cook if you know how to do it properly. First of all rinse the basket containing the raw rice under running tap water till the water runs clear from dirt present on its surface, then soak the r insed rice in enough water for 30 minutes before cooking.  Now take a deep saucepan or pressure cooker, pour 2 and 1/2 cups of water in it for each cup of rice that you have soaked. Add salt to taste. Place the saucepan on high heat and wait till the water comes to a boil. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the flame to low and add the drained rice to it. Stir gently so that the rice doesn’t stick to each other and cook covered on low flame till all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked properly. Once done, remove from flame and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving hot with any curry of your choice.
